The recent rise in new COVID-19 cases has stirred concerns in the subcontinent. A single-day increase of 10,158 coronavirus cases was reported, along with 19 fatalities. This marks the highest in eight months.
The reported deaths due to COVID-19 were largely from Maharashtra (nine), four from Kerala, and two from Gujarat. Delhi, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu also recorded COVID-19-related fatalities.
The toll in Maharashtra alone was 1,086 fresh COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours; which was lower compared to Wednesday’s 1,115 cases. The current surge has escalated the number of active cases in this state to 5,700. While Delhi reported 1,527 new cases and two deaths, with 3,962 active cases.
The education minister of Delhi hinted that, heeding the current situation, appropriate guidelines for schools are forthcoming.
