What is clot culture?

In this video, Dr. Narendra Saini, MBBS, MD, Internal/General Medicine will talk about clot culture. Clot culture is a modification of a blood culture. In clot culture, the blood is allowed to clot. The advantage of clot culture is that serum can also be collected and investigated for serological tests. Dr. Saini will explain that the blood collected should be 5 to 10 ml and in a sterile container. Allow the blood to clot and after 30 minutes, centrifuged it and remove the clot and put in a streptokinase broth. The serum from the clot has lot of antibodies which the clot doesn’t have and hence useful in investigation.
