What is a stool culture test?

Stool culture is not done routinely, only in certain conditions such as Salmonella, Shigella, etc. Also, stool culture is done in rice-watery stool, mucus in stools or blood in stools. The stool culture is collected in a sterile container and doesn’t require full container. A small teaspoon is efficient for testing. The reports of the stool culture are available in 48 – 72 hours.
