A nationwide survey of 1,003 Indian parents has highlighted significant gaps in awareness and preventive practices related to atopic dermatitis (AD) in children under five. Conducted by Censuswide, the study reported an AD prevalence of 17.85% among respondents’ children.
While 68.49% of parents were aware of ways to delay AD onset in high-risk children and 89% expressed interest in learning more, many lacked clarity on effective preventive strategies. Only 12.96% identified moisturizers—an important tool for maintaining skin barrier function—as their preferred preventive option, despite 57.3% expressing willingness to use them proactively.
Among the 179 children diagnosed with AD, 80.45% of parents had attempted some form of prevention before diagnosis, but lack of awareness remained a major barrier.
The findings point to an urgent need for targeted educational initiatives, early intervention guidance, and improved parental understanding of AD management. Further analytical research is recommended to strengthen evidence-based strategies for better pediatric AD care in India.
