Dyslipidemia Management in PAD

Dyslipidemia Management in PAD

1.    Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a highly prevalent atherosclerotic syndrome and is associated with significant disability, morbidity and mortality.

2.    PAD still largely remains underdiagnosed, understudied and undertreated.

3.    Despite the significant limb and CV outcomes in PAD, there is poor risk factor modification relative to other atherosclerotic diseases like CAD or stroke.

4.    Initiate HIS in patients with PAD once diagnosed.

5.    Classify the PAD patient in one of the ASCVD risk categories based on related ASCVD risk factors and other comorbidities. Define the goal of LDL-C based on the ASCVD risk category.

6.    Send extended lipid profile including LP(a) assessment.

7.    If there is a greater reduction of LDL-C required according to the lipid profile report, other nonstatin drugs may be used in addition to HIS.
