In this video, Dr. Suman Kirti, Endocrinologist, Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi will talk about diagnosing nephropathy in a diabetic patient. Generally, a type 2 diabetic patient on his first visit should be tested for nephropathy because the doctor doesn’t know for how long he has been diabetic before diagnosis. Whereas in type 1 diabetes, the doctor is aware since how long is he been a diabetic. Dr. Suman will discuss about the different stages of nephropathy and when it can be reversed. When the glomerular filtration rate falls, the patient can go into renal failure which could be mild, moderate or severe according to the eGFR.
