In this video, Dr. Sunil Gupta, Additional Director, NCDC, will explain about the rational use of antibiotics, in this video. Rational use of antibiotics means appropriate use of antibiotics wherever required. He further explains that if you need to give antibiotics for 5 days, then 5 days are rational use. If you are giving it for 3 or more than 5 days, then it is an irrational use of antibiotics. Thus under-dosing or over-dosing both are irrational. Also, quality of the medicines should also be assured and substandard quality should be avoided. Thus, the right quality, right dosage and the right duration whenever it is needed should be given.
Dr. Sunil Gupta is a Additional Director, HAG & HOD at National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
