In this video, Dr. K K Aggarwal, Padma Shri Awardee, Editor-in-chief IJCP Publications, will explain how to manage a patient with dengue fever. In case of mild dengue, give 500 ml of fluids immediately and ask the patient to hydrate himself later. Dr. Aggarwal further says that check for the pulse whether it is dropped, hematocrit findings and platelets count. He will also explain when to transfuse platelet. In case of severe dengue, 1500 ml fluids immediately followed by enough fluids to pass urine every few hours. If there is rapid fall of pulse with rise in hematocrit findings, low platelet levels without any bleeding does not require platelet transfusion.
