ABOUT THIS SESSION

Pheromones are chemical signaling molecules that influence behavior, attraction, and social communication at a subconscious level. In humans, their role remains intriguing, with emerging research exploring their potential impact on mood, bonding, and interpersonal dynamics. While widely studied in the animal kingdom, the science of human pheromones continues to evolve, bridging endocrinology, neuroscience, and behavioral science. In this engaging webinar, Dr. Sanjay Kalra will unravel the myths and evidence surrounding pheromones, offering clinical insights into their relevance in modern medical practice

Q&A

A pheromone is a chemical substance released in very small amounts by an individual that influences the behavior or physiology of another individual of the same species.

Hormones act within the body and affect internal organs, while pheromones are released outside the body and influence other individuals.

Pheromones help animals mark territory, locate food, identify mates, recognize parents and offspring, and signal danger.

Ants release chemical trails that guide other ants to food sources, forming organized lines.

Dogs urinate to mark their territory, signaling to other dogs that the area is occupied.

Releaser pheromones produce immediate behavioral responses, such as sexual attraction or alarm signals.

Primer pheromones cause slow, long-term hormonal or physiological changes in the recipient.

There is some evidence suggesting humans release chemical signals through sweat (especially from the underarm area), but scientific proof of their strong behavioral effects is limited.

The VNO is a sensory organ that detects pheromones in many animals. In humans, it is considered vestigial and not functionally connected to the brain.

Perfumes are synthetic chemicals, but certain scents can influence mood and attraction, producing effects similar to pheromones.
