ABOUT THIS SESSION

Aging is associated with progressive changes in endocrine function that influence metabolism, body composition, bone health, cardiovascular risk, and overall physiological resilience. This webinar will explore the scientific basis of anti-aging hormones, their physiological roles, and the evidence supporting hormonal interventions in healthy aging. Dr. Sanjay Kalra will discuss the potential benefits, limitations, safety considerations, and appropriate clinical context of hormone-based approaches. The session will also distinguish evidence-based treatment of hormonal deficiency from the broader concept of hormonal anti-aging and longevity therapies.

Q&A

No. There is currently no single hormone or treatment that can stop or reverse the aging process. Hormones and biological factors such as melatonin, DHEA, testosterone, estrogen, vitamin D, and Klotho may contribute to healthy aging, but none of them can be considered a definitive anti-aging hormone.

No. Growth hormone has an important role in normal growth, particularly during childhood, but using excess GH to promote longevity is not recommended. Inappropriate use can lead to problems such as raised blood glucose or diabetes, high blood pressure, and fluid retention.

Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It may also help regulate inflammation and support resistance to infections. However, vitamin D should not be viewed as a standalone anti-aging hormone.

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland and is best known for its role in sleep and relaxation. It also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may contribute to healthy aging and help protect against premature aging. However, routine melatonin supplementation is not necessary for everyone.

Testosterone levels and their effects can decline with age. Factors such as obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, stress, and certain medications may also contribute to functional hypogonadism. Maintaining a healthy weight through gradual and sustainable weight management can help support normal testosterone function.

Serum testosterone is best checked at around 8 AM. However, the testosterone level should not be assessed on its own. LH, FSH, prolactin, and TSH should also be considered to help identify the underlying cause of low libido or reduced testosterone function.

Estrogen is an important hormone in women, and its levels decline significantly around menopause. In women experiencing symptoms such as hot flashes or genitourinary symptoms, Menopause Hormone Therapy may be considered after an appropriate evaluation and consultation with a gynecologist or endocrinologist.

DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone, is produced by the adrenal glands and can be converted into male and female sex hormones. The session discusses its potential role when DHEA-S levels are low, particularly when symptoms such as low libido or fatigue are present. However, DHEA should not be taken routinely without proper medical assessment.

Klotho is a protein produced mainly by the kidneys and is considered a promising factor in the biology of healthy aging. One key point highlighted in the session is that regular exercise may increase Klotho levels, suggesting that physical activity could help promote healthier aging.

The most practical approach is not to depend on a single hormone or supplement, but to focus on a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, maintaining an optimal weight, and following a balanced, sattvic nutritional approach are emphasized. Exercise may help increase Klotho levels, while healthy nutrition and fermented foods may support a healthier gut microbiome.
