Overview

This webcast on Mental Health explains why mental health is not a part of the medical education in general system. It also focuses on depression, how should a GP treat a patient with mental health and depression disease, when should a depression be called a disease, and what are core symptoms of depression. Also we get to know how mental health is related to religion, vedic sciences, rituals, customs and beliefs and how positive thinking is important for a person with mental health.

Dr. Nimesh G Desai

Director, Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences(IHBAS) and also Professor of Psychiatry.

Dr Nimesh G. Desai has made immense contribution to the development of Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), Delhi, India since he assumed the charge as the Director in April 2010 and again from may 2016 helped IHBAS to achieve the status of “An Institute of National Importance”. He has made the exceptional & unusual decision of shifting to IHBAS (Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences) in 1998, and has served there for 11 years as Head, Department of Psychiatry also as Medical Superintendent of the IHBAS for most of those years. He served on the faculty of two of the best academic institutions, joining IHBAS in 1998 and taking up the responsibility of developing it as a National Institute and a Centre of Excellence. He was the past Hony. Secretary General of India Psychiatric Society.


Dr. Rajesh Sagar

Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

He is an MBBS, MD Consultant Psychiatrist and practices at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). currently working as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Appointed Honorary Consultant to Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), 2009. Awarded the fellowship of International Medical Science Academy (FIMSA)-2009. Elected as Editor of Indian Psychiatry Society -North zone (Journal of Mental Health & Human Behavior) Oct 2010-continuing. Appointed as the Honorary Advisor for mental health to Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, 2013. Appointed as the Chairman of the Technical Committee on India-Australia Community Mental Health Development Project for Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, 2013. Awarded fellowship in Indian Association of Medico-legal Experts (IAMLE), 2014.


Dr. R C Jiloha

Director, Professor and HOD of Psychiatry at G.B. Pant Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.

Dr. R.C. Jiloha, Worked as Director, Professor and HOD of Psychiatry at G.B. Pant Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He graduated from Government Medical College, Rohtak and subsequently completed his postgraduation in Psychiatry from Postgraduate Institute  of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in 1980 and senior residency in 1983. He joined G.B. Pant Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College in 1983 as a lecturer in Psychiatry and since then he has worked there in various capacities. In addition to his involvement in various mental health activities, he has special interest in the problem of drug addiction. He pursued further studies in the field of drug-dependence at University of California at Los Angeles (USA) in 1998. Dr. Jiloha is a senior consultant and one of the senior most teachers in psychiatry, running MD (Psychiatry) course under University of Delhi since 1983. He has served as Head of the Psychiatry Department, University of Delhi and as President of Delhi Psychiatric Society in the past. Currently he is the member of Delhi Mental Health Authority and the Academic Council of Delhi University. He takes keen interest in all academic activities related to mental health and care of the mentally ill.
