He was former Senior Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology, Head of Department of Endocrinology and Dean and Medical Superintendent of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry. He has completed his MBBS, MD (Medicine), Ph.D, DNB, FAMS, FICP, FRCP. Dr Das has taught the medical undergraduates and postgraduates in Medicine and Diabetology for more than 33 years.

She has professional membership with the Endocrine Society of India., Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India, the American Diabetes Association, and Organizing Secretary, First Asian Metabolic Surgery Taskforce. She has a publication in national as well as international peer-reviewed journals.

Over the years, she has trained many successful endocrinologists, internists and scientists. Dr Usha has been the executive committee member of the Indian Society for bone and mineral research [ISBMR] for over a decade and last year became the vice president of the society.
