Managing GERD in COIVD-19 patients


Digestive disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GRED) and Barrett's esophagus may be associated with a high-risk death from COVID-19. Damage to the esophagus from stomach acid appears to cause increased expression of ACE2, the enzyme receptor to which SAR-CoV-2 binds to penetrate human cells. Esophageal cells, thereby, become more susceptible to infection by the virus.
