Overview

The most predominant disease process occurring in pregnancy affecting both the cardiovascular and renal system is the spectrum of hypertensive disorders specifically pre-eclampsia. Worldwide, it is the leading cause of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity. There is growing evidence that early onset/preterm preeclampsia should be used to identify women at high cardiovascular risk, especially in the absence of additional risk factors.
