This Maharashtra District Mandates Wearing Masks Amid A Spike In Covid Cases

Maharashtra, on Monday, 3rd April, reported 248 fresh coronavirus cases.

Several regions of the nation are also witnessing an upsurge in Covid cases in the last few weeks.

Considering this spike in COVID-19 and influenza cases in Maharashtra, the Satara Collector, Ruchesh Jaivanshi, issued an order mandating wearing masks for employees and officials operating in government and semi-government offices, colleges, and banks. He also appealed to residents in the district to follow COVID-appropriate behaviors in public places and larger gatherings.

As per the state health department, Maharastra witnessed a tally of infections of 81,45,590 and a death toll of 1,48,445 on Monday.

Doctors have urged people to ply essential precautions and not ignore doubted symptoms of Covid-19 as the current weather is favorable for the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has also advised people to be careful given the prevailing Covid situation.

Amid a spike in the cases, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium recognizes Omicron subvariant XBB.1.16 as the leading variant in India, accounting for up to 60% of cases.
