Rajasthan – the first state to implement 'Right to Health'

The Chief Minister (CM) of the Indian state of Rajasthan – Ashok Gehlot, announced that Rajasthan is to be the first state to implement the much-discussed 'Right to Health' bill.

Tuesday saw a consensus being reached between the protesting doctors and government authorities. The CM expressed gratitude and hoped for the retention of good doctor-patient relationships.

The bill offers all residents of Rajasthan the right to avail of out-patient as well as in-patient facilities at all public healthcare centers, free of cost. Although private hospitals and doctors protested against this bill initially, they formed a consensus based on eight demands of the doctors.

The formal announcement is expected after the scheduled general body meeting, including doctors.
