“Free Sugar” Intake Increases the Risk of Heart Disease and Stroke

It is common knowledge that high sugar intake imposes deleterious impacts on health. A recent study has depicted an association between a sugary diet and heart disease and stroke.

Sugary diets could be correlated with cardiovascular disease occurrences and higher triglyceride concentrations. A study published in BMC Medicine analyzed the dietary data of over 110,000 adults over 37 years of age for nine years. The findings depicted that with every 5% increase in total long-term ‘free sugar’ intake, the heart disease risk escalated by 6% while the risk for stroke rose by 10%.

On the other hand, fiber intake was shown to have the opposite effect on the risk of cardiovascular disease.
