Former Top Chinese Scientist Suggests Not Ruling Out Lab Leak as COVID-19 Origin

The former head of China's Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Prof George Gao, has stated that the possibility of the Covid-19 virus leaking from a laboratory should not be dismissed. Despite the Chinese government's denial of the lab leak theory, Prof Gao, a prominent virologist, and immunologist, expressed a more open stance, emphasizing the importance of considering all possibilities in scientific investigations. He revealed that a formal investigation into the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) had taken place, although not under the purview of his department. While he had not personally seen the results, Prof Gao stated that he had heard the lab was found to be in compliance with protocols and no wrongdoing was detected. This acknowledgment marks the first official recognition of an investigation into the lab, indicating a potentially more serious consideration of the lab leak hypothesis by the Chinese government.
