An artificial intelligence (AI) learning model developed by the University of Surrey, University of Southern California, University of Michigan in the US, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has uncovered that over 10 million Indian older adults likely suffer from dementia. This prevalence rate is comparable to those of developed nations like the United Kingdom (UK) and US.
This was the first and only nationally representative aging study in India. The researchers used AI to analyze data from 31,477 older adults. The findings projected higher dementia prevalence among the elderly, females, the less educated, and those residing in rural areas.
AI-based research has tremendous potential to elucidate patterns from complex data assimilations. These findings may improve our understanding of the impacts of the disease across communities and may aid in enhancing targeted therapeutic modalities.
